(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson
College women's basketball team turned in a dominant performance on
Saturday, holding visiting Bryn Mawr to just 12 points in a 55-12
Centennial Conference win. |
The Devils were relentless in the first half, keeping the Owls
scoreless for almost 16 minutes as they jumped out to an 18-0 lead.
Shanika Bridges-King (Roxbury, Mass./English) put Bryn Mawr on the
board at the 4:20 mark.
The Devils took a 24-2 advantage into halftime behind seven
first-half points from junior Carole Dempsey (Potomac,
Md./Winston Churchill).
The second half provided similar results as the Devils stretched
the lead to 39-2 before the Owls would answer again with just over
12 minutes remaining in the game. The Devils outscored the Owls,
31-10, in the second half.
Dempsey led the way, finishing with a double-double, scoring 18
points and controlling 10 rebounds. She added two steals and a pair
of blocked shots as well.
Junior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) reached double-figues with 10 points, adding
eight rebounds and two steals.
First-year Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre
Dame de Namur) chipped in with eight points and three
rebounds while sophomore Taylor Miller (Red Lion,
Pa./Red Lion) tallied six points, four assists and
three steals.
The Devils set a school record for the fewest points allowed in
a half. The 12 points ranks second in school history for fewest
points allowed. The Devils held Lebanon Valley to just 11 points in
1979.
The Red Devils improve to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial
Conference. They are home again on Tuesday, hosting Swarthmore
College at 6:00 pm.
