(Haverford, Pa) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team rallied from a 15 point deficit but couldn't catch Haverford, falling 45-40 in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday night.
The 'Fords jumped out to a 9-0 start and led by as many as 15 in the first half. The Devils trailed 24-9 at the midway point but rallied with a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to 27-18 at the break. Haverford held the edge on the glass with a 23-11 advantage in rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
The Devils kept themselves in the game with solid shooting from the free throw line, hitting of 8-of-10 in the first half. Senior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) tallied eight points and controlled four rebounds before halftime.
The 'Fords held a 31-20 lead with just under 16 minutes to play when the Devils went on a 12-2 run over the next nine minutes to pull within one at 33-32. The Devils used a pair of Sisco steals and three jumpers from senior Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) to stay within striking distance, trailing 41-40 with 45 seconds remaining in the game.
Nina Voth converted four straight free throws in the final 25 seconds to secure the win for Haverford. She finished with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds, going 5-for-5 from the line.
Sisco matched a game-high with 16 points, adding four steals and was just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. She went 8-for-8 from the line as the Devils finished 12-of-14 from the stripe. Dempsey scored 10 points while Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) recorded three steals.
The Red Devils slip to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to McDaniel College on Thursday night to face the Green Terror at 7:00 pm.
