(Carlisle, Pa.) – The
Dickinson College women's basketball team overcame a slow start to
post a 67-49 win over visiting Washington College on Saturday. The
Red Devils improved to 15-7 overall and 11-7 in the Centennial
Conference, clinching a spot in the conference playoffs for the
sixth straight season. |
The game was tied 10-10 at the 12:50 mark of the first half
before the Devils went on an 18-5 run to pull in front 28-15,
capped by aBelma Mekic (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar
Cliff) three-pointer with 3:47 remaining in the half.
Dickinson went into the break with a 32-22 lead.
Washington cut the deficit to three points in the opening five
minutes of the half. The Red Devils answered with a 10-0 run to
stretch the lead to 46-33 with 12:32 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils continued to build on that lead, extending the
margin to as many as 20 in the final minutes.
Junior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) had another outstanding performance with a
double-double. She scored a game-high 16 points to go with 10
rebounds and a pair of assists.
Classmate Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston
Churchill)added 13 points, four rebounds, three assists
and three steals while sophomore Taylor Miller (Red
Lion, Pa./Red Lion) tallied 12 points on 5-of-6
shooting, adding three assists as well. Dana Walsh
(Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) came off the bench to
record six rebounds, four points, a pair of assists and two
steals.
The Red Devils honored seniors Brooke Muller
(Northampton, Pa./Whitehall) and Olivia
Dewey (Falls Church, Va./The Potomac School) prior to
the game. Muller tallied four points, three assists and three
steals on the afternoon. Erin Kile (Benton, Pa./Benton) led
Washington (9-14, 7-11) with 15 points and game-high 16
rebounds.
The Red Devils (15-7, 11-7) travel to Gettysburg on Wednesday
for a 6:00 tip-off.
