(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's swim team opened the 2011-12 season with a 122-83 win at Ursinus College. The Red Devils broke a pair of pool records and went 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle and the 200 backstroke.
Senior Doug Murray (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was a triple-winner, capturing the 50 free (21.81), 100 free (48.69) and swimming the lead leg of the winning 400 free relay (3:20.79).
Sophomore Brandon Gauthier (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) claimed three events as well, posting wins in the 200 individual medley (2:02.14) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.25). He also swam the third leg of the 400 medley relay that set a pool record with a time of 3:37.41.
Sophomore Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School, Conn.) swam the lead leg of the record-setting medley relay. He also set a pool record with a time of 52.08 for the 100 backstroke in the lead leg of the relay. He added a win in the 200 backstroke (2:03.38) and placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.01. Junior Ed Barnard (Springfield, Pa./Haverford School) placed third in the 50 freestyle (22.48). He also joined the medley relay and placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.05).
First-years Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) and Micah Smith (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) placed second and third in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:05.65 and 2:07.48, respectively.
Cris Miranda (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) added a win in the 200 butterfly (2:02.14) and swam the third leg of the medley relay. Senior Tristan White (Auburn, N.Y./Hotchkiss) and junior Zach Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) earned a win, swimming the final two legs of the 400 free relay.
The Red Devils travel to the University of Scranton next Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
