(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team outscored McDaniel College, 37-24, in the second half to post a 67-53 win on Thursday night
The Green Terror jumped out to an early lead, pulling in front by seven, 15-8, with just over 12 minutes remaining in the half. The Devils battled back, taking a 30-29 advantage at halftime.
Senior Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff) led the way, scoring eight points while grabbing six rebounds and handing out four assists in the first half. Senior Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) added eight points as well, controlling five rebounds.
The Red Devils opened an eight point lead in the second half. Senior Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) hit a shot at the 9:32 mark to put the Devils up, 44-36. They stretched the lead to a dozen on a pair of Mekic free throws with 1:56 left to play.
Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) hit a pair of free throws and Mekic knocked-down three more to secure the win for Dickinson as they improve to 5-1 on the season.
Mekic finished with a game-high 18 points, recording her second double-double of the season with 16 rebounds, adding five assists and three steals on the night, hitting 10-of-13 free throws.
Senior Walsh tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, going 3-for-4 from the line. Borgese reached double-figures, scoring 10 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) was the fourth Red Devil in double-digits, adding 10 points and five rebounds. Sisco tallied six points, five rebounds and three assists.
Steph Perez led McDaniel (2-3, 0-2 CC) with 13 points while Emma Wingerd scored 11 points and controlled a game-high 17 rebounds.
The Red Devils travel to Haverford College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
