(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a 65-55 setback to visiting Ursinus College on Saturday.
The game was close throughout the entire first half as the teams played to eight ties in the opening 20 minutes before the Devils took a slim, 30-27 lead into halftime.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half. Ursinus went in front at the 17:13 mark, and would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Bears stretched the lead to six points with 12:43 remaining, but Dickinson answered to pull within a field-goal with 7:18 to play.
Ursinus would lead by as many as 12 in the late minutes, but could not put the game away as Dickinson continued to battle. The Bears were solid from the line, hitting 10-of-14 free throws over the final 1:40 of the game.
Senior Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) led the Red Devils with 12 points and eight rebounds, hitting 4-of-5 free throws and handing out a pair of assists. Classmate Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) added nine points and five rebounds, converting 5-of-6 foul shots.
Senior Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff) and sophomore Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) each tallied eight points and two assists. Mekic grabbed five rebounds and went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) chipped in with six points and five rebounds while Carmen Mann (Vienna, Va./James Madison) added five points.
Diamond Lewis led a quartet of double-figure scorers for Ursinus (5-4, 3-3) with a game-high 16 points, adding eight rebounds and five steals. Jessica Porada scored 11 points and controlled eight rebounds while Alyssa Polimeni and Caroline Shimrock each tallied 10.
The Red Devils slip to 6-2 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are done for the semester and return to action on January 5th at Bryn Mawr College. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
