Senior Swimmers Celebrate 105-100 Win Over Swarthmore

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's swim team turned in a solid team effort, holding off visiting Swarthmore College, 105-100, on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils received some outstanding performances to celebrate senior day with a victory.

 

The Devils placed second in the 400 medley relay, then swept the top three spots in the 1000 yard freestyle. Sophomore Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J./Morristown Beard) led the way, clocking a time of 10:51.61 for the win. First-year Carla Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) placed second (11:10.42), followed by classmate Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) in third (11:13.42).

 

Gannon captured the 500 freestyle as well, clocking a time of 5:15.29, and placed second in the 400 free relay. Brennan added a pair of third place finishes as well, clocking a time of 2:20.65 in the 200 butterfly and as the second leg of the third-place 400 free relay. Vazquez-Ramos was the anchor for the third place free relay, joining Edmi Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), who swam the third leg. Edmi added a third place showing in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.62.

 

Sophomore Natalie LeBlanc (Westport, Conn./Staples) earned a pair of wins, touching the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2 :16.64) and the 200 backstroke (2 :12.57).

 

Senior Eva Kolstad (Cheshire, Conn./Hopkins School) scored key points, placing second in the 100 (54.59) and 200 freestyle (1:58.29) events, and placing second with the 400 free relay, clocking a time of 3:43.35. Classmate Kasia Szulborski (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) celebrated senior day with a pair of second place finishes as the anchor in the medley and free relays.

 

Sophomore Gillie Grattan (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) and first-years Johanna Fleming (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) and Alexandra  Goodson (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) also swam well Dickinson.

 

The Red Devils post their 10th win of the season, improving to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference. They will compete at the Conference Championships, starting on February 17th.
