(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered its first loss at the Kline Center in four games as Johns Hopkins posted a 70-46 win on Saturday to even the season series, 1-1. The Red Devils claimed a 56-51 decision in Baltimore, last semester.
The Blue Jays jumped out a 4-0 lead and led for the entire game. A 6-0 run gave Hopkins an 18-8 advantage at the 12:52 mark of the first half. The Red Devils rallied to pull within four, 20-16, at the 9:28 mark.
The Blue Jays answered again, stretching the margin to 28-16. Dickinson trailed, 32-24, at the two minute mark, but Hopkins closed out the half with its biggest lead of the day, 39-25.
Dickinson came out for the second half and opened with an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to nine at the 15:18 mark. The Blue Jays answered on the other end, and would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Alexa Vasilla led the way for Hopkins, recording a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, to go with three assists and three blocked shots. Stacy Fairey turned in a strong performance as well, adding 15 points, five rebounds and four steals, and hitting 5-of-6 free throws. Liz Tommasi tallied 14 points as the Blue Jays improve to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial Conference.
Senior Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) led the Devils with 10 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) added eight points and eight rebounds to go with an assist and a steal.
Senior Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) scored nine points, hitting 4-of-5 free throws, and controlled four rebounds. Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff, Pa.) added eight points and two steals, hitting 4-of-5 free throws.
The Red Devils were solid from the line, shooting 72 percent as a team, converting 18-of-25 attempts. They struggled from the field, however, shooting just 25 percent on the day.
The Red Devils slip to 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the conference. They travel to Gettysburg next Wednesday for a 7:00 pm tip-off with the Bullets.
