(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to McDaniel College on Thursday night, falling 61-49.
The Green Terror jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the opening four minutes of the game. The Red Devils would battle back to tie things up, 15-15, at the 8:25 mark. McDaniel closed out the half with an 11-5 run to hold a 29-23 advantage at halftime.
McDaniel had another strong start of open the second half. They quickly stretched the lead to 13, and pulled in front, 46-30, with 14:09 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils continued to fight, putting together a 10-2 run of their own, cutting the deficit to seven with 2:51 on the clock. A pair of Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) free throws cut the margin to seven, again with 50 seconds left to play.
The Green Terror closed out the game, hitting 5-of-6 free throws, including four straight from Brittany Davis, to secure the win.
Steph Perez led McDaniel with a game-high 19 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers. Rachael Rybak and Emma Wingerd each finished with 11 points as the Green Terror improve to 9-11 overall and 6-9 in the Centennial Conference.
Walsh tallied 13 points and seven rebounds on the night, adding five assists and four steals. She hit 5-of-6 free throws on the night as well. Senior Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff) led the Devils with 16 points and nine rebounds, going 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals. Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) chipped in with six points and five rebounds while Carmen Mann (Vienna, Va./James Madison) scored four points and grabbed three rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 11-8 overall and 7-8 in conference play. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Washington College at 4:00 pm.
