(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's swim teams both opened the season and Centennial Conference competition at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devil men dropped a, 105-100, decision while the women suffered a, 122-83, setback.
Senior Brandon Gauthier (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led the way for the Red Devil men, winning three events on the day. He claimed the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.70 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.95. He added this third win as the anchor on the 400 medley relay, combining for a time of 3:37.10.
Classmate Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School) swam the lead leg of the winning medley relay and captured the 50 yard freestyle in 21.68. He touched the wall third in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:00.45. First-year Sam Eaton (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) and senior Cris Miranda (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) joined the medley relay as well.
Miranda added a pair of second place finishes, clocking a time of 2:02.07 in the 200 butterfly. He swam the lead leg of the 400 free relay, placing second in 3:18.28. Eaton placed second in the 200 breaststroke, just two seconds behind Gauthier, posting a time of 2:19.11.
First-year Alex Bennett (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.76) and placed second in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:00.77.
Junior Cameron Phillips (Woburn, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) joined the free relay and placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:05.49). First-years Sasha Jouravlev (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and Slade Reisner (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) rounded out the relay.
Sophomore Alex Karickhoff (Willoughby, Ohio/Hawken School) won the 100 freestyle in 49.75.
The Red Devils are on the road again next Saturday, traveling to the University of Scranton for a 1:00 pm start.
