(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's swim teams both opened the season and Centennial Conference competition at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devil men dropped a, 105-100, decision while the women suffered a, 122-83, setback.
Junior Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) led the way with a pair of wins on the day. She claimed the first distance event, touching the wall first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:07.90. Brennan added another win in the 200 butterfly, posting a time of 2:15.86.
First-year Emily Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) had a strong start to her collegiate career. She led-off the 400 medley relay as the Red Devils placed second (4:09.21), and added second place showings in the 50 (25.55) and 100 (54.46) yard freestyle events.
Senior Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J./Morristown Beard) won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.24, and placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:00.87).
Sophomore, and 2012-13 McAndrews Award winner, Caitlin Klockner (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:19.08) and captured third in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 55.22.
Junior Alex Melchiorre (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) anchored the medley relay and added a third place showing in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:42.54. Sophomore Katie Nirenberg (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) joined the 400 free relay for second and placed third in the 200 backstroke (2:22.07).
First-year Tanita Leary (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) swam with both second-place relays. Classmate Lindsay Morton (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) joined the free relay while senior Gillie Grattan (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) swam the anchor as the free relay clocked a time of 3:45.87. Jacqulyn Teller (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) was also part of the second place free relay.
The Red Devils are on the road again next Saturday, traveling to the University of Scranton for a 1:00 pm start.
