(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team opened Centennial Conference play with a tough outing at Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays jumped out to a big lead in the first half, posting a 72-47 win.

The Red Devils stayed even with the Blue Jays in the early stages of the game, trailing by just a field-goal, five minutes into the contest. Hopkins went on a big run, midway through the first half.

A 19-3 run gave the Blue Jays their biggest lead of the half, 36-13, taking a 38-16 advantage into the break.

Hopkins remained in control for the second half, but Dickinson came out ready to play. The Blue Jays held the margin, but only outscored the Devils, 34-31, in the second half.

Junior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) and first-year Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) led the Red Devils, each with 11 points. Smith added three rebounds and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Schultz was perfect from the line, hitting 5-of-5 on the night.

First-year Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) tallied eight points and six rebounds. Classmates Erica Buls (New Market, Md./Oakdale) and Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) each controlled six rebounds while Roberts chipped in with six points as well.

Katie Clark led the Blue Jays (2-1) with a game-high 17 points, adding five assists and three steals. Ciara McCullagh recorded a double-double with13 points and 10 rebounds while Fatu Conteh reached double-figures with 13 points as well.

The Red Devils slip to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
