(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team outscored McDaniel in the second half, but couldn't overcome a first-half deficit, falling 52-43 on Tuesday night.
The Red Devil women led for the early part of the game, but the Green Terror went on a run midway through the half, to take a 22-10 lead with 2:52 remaining. McDaniel pulled in front on a three-pointer by Steph Perez at the 7:19 mark to trigger the 14-0 rally.
McDaniel went into halftime with a 28-17 lead. They opened the second half with an 11-6 run to stretch the lead to 16 with 12:37 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils would battle back late in the contest. First-year Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) scored on an assist from junior Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon), and converted a free throw for a three-point play. That cut the lead to just five, with 58 seconds on the clock.
The Green Terror held on, sinking 4-of-5 free throws down the stretch. They improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.
Martin led the way for Dickinson with a double-double. She scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. She pulled down five on the offensive end, adding a game-high five steals and two blocked shots.
First-year Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) scored nine points to go with three rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Phillips finished with eight points and two assists while Erica Buls (New Market, Md./Oakdale) controlled nine rebounds and scored four points. Junior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) chipped in with seven points.
Perez led McDaniel with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists. Lindsey Nichols added 11 points and six rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference. They return home to face Swarthmore College at 2:00 pm.
