(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a 73-50 loss at Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils kept Swarthmore in striking distance throughout the first half, but the Garnet was able to pull away after the break.
The Red Devils struck first but Swarthmore answered with an 11-0 run. Dickinson was able to keep the Garnet in check for most of the first half, trailing just 14-8, midway through the opening stanza.
The Red Devils scored three straight to pull within four at the 6:11 mark, 16-12. Swarthmore stretched the lead to double-figures before sophomore Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) knocked-down a three-pointer to make the score, 24-17, with 2:41 remaining in the half.
Swarthmore took a 28-19 advantage into halftime. They stretched the margin to 39-21, in the opening four minutes of the second half, capped by a three-pointer from Kayla Moritzky. The Garnet continued to build on the lead over the remainder of the half.
Junior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) led the Red Devils with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists, hitting 4-of-5 free throw attempts. Classmate Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) added nine points, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) tallied eight points on 4-of-6 shooting while first-year Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) scored seven points and controlled five rebounds. Erica Buls (New Market, Md./Oakdale) pulled down seven rebounds.
Elle Larson led Swarthmore (9-8, 4-7) with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Katie Lytle tallied 19 points and seven rebounds to go with four steals.
The Red Devils slip to 4-12 overall and 1-10 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Muhlenberg College on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
