Box Score
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team made a strong run at Muhlenberg on Thursday night, but the visiting Mules held on to post a 48-35 win at the Kline Center.
A low scoring first half saw the Red Devils in great shape, leading 10-9, at the 10:34 mark of the first half. Muhlenberg took control over the final nine minutes, outscoring the Red Devils 21-6, to take a 30-16 advantage at the break.
Junior Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) knocked-down a three-pointer in the final minute of the half to cut the lead to 11 but Nicole Pepe answered with a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Pepe stretched the margin to 17, early in the second half, giving the Mules their biggest lead of the night. The Red Devils would rally, however, pulling within six down the stretch.
Phillips buried a three with 11:36 to play, cutting the deficit to 13. Dickinson would chip away behind strong play from sophomore Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and first-year Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale). Sisco knocked-down a jumper and hit two free throws, and Martin scored from inside to make the score, 39-33, with 6:30 remaining in the game.
A pair of Martin free throws kept the Red Devils within seven, with 4:08 to play. That would be as close as they would get, however, with the Mules holding on down the stretch.
Leanna Tallamy was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring game-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds. Erin Laney was close to a double as well, scoring 10 points to go with eight rebounds on the night. Muhlenberg improves to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in the Centennial Conference.
Phillips led the Red Devils with 10 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers. Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) sank a pair of three's, scoring six points. Sisco finished with five points and six rebounds while Martin and classmate Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) each scored five points as well.
The Red Devils slip to 4-13 overall and 1-11 in the conference. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Washington College for a 2:00 pm tip-off.
