(Bryn Athyn, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team opened 2014, with a big road win, running past Bryn Athyn, 84-46, on Saturday.
First-year Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) led a strong offensive output with a game-high 21 points, recording a double-double with 13 rebounds. Martin pulled down seven boards, on the offensive end, and tallied four steals as well.
Following a slow start, the Red Devils put together a run in the first half to take a 24-10 lead at the 9:23 mark. Dickinson broke an 8-8 tie with a 16-2 clip, behind nine points from Martin.
The Lions answered to pull within six, 26-20, with 2:37 remaining in the half. Junior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) closed out the half with six of the Devils' final eight points to take a 34-21 advantage at the break.
The Red Devils continued to build on the lead in the second half. Sophomore guard Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) triggered another scoring spurt for the Devils, joining Martin and first-year Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) to put Dickinson in front by 19, with 14:33 remaining.
The Red Devils stretched the lead throughout the entire second half, scoring 84 points, while netting just a trio of three-pointers. They combined to convert, 21-of-26 free throws, hitting 18-of-21 in the second half.
Four Red Devils reached double-figures on the afternoon. Schultz added a double-double as well, scoring 19 points and controlling 11 rebounds.
Smith finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. She went 7-for-7 from the free throw line, adding three assists and two steals. Sisco went 5-for-6 from the line, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) chipped in with three steals.
Brittany Vick led the Lions (4-3) with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals. Bianca Feliciano reached double-figures with 10 points, adding four rebounds as well.
The Red Devils improve to 2-7 on the season. They travel to Alvernia on Monday for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
