(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's swim team suffered a heartbreaker in their season opener, falling to visiting Ursinus, 104-101, on Saturday afternoon. The meet came down to the last race with the Bears claiming first and third to claim the win.
Sophomore Travis Lipscomb (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) anchored the winning 400 medley relay as the Devils clocked a time of 3:38.96. He added a win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.08 to hold off first-year teammate Allen Belo (Odenton, Md./Severn School, who clocked a time of 23.46.
Lipscomb placed second in the 100 freestyle (51.06) while Belo swam the second leg of the second place free relay.
Senior Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) led-off the winning medley relay and added second place finishes in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.24) and as the lead leg in the second place free relay.
Sophomore Sam Eaton (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) was a double-winner, joining the medley relay and winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.24. Classmate Alex Bennett (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the 500 freestyle (4:53.88) and placed third in the 1000 with a time of 10:16.62. He anchored the second place free relay that clocked a time 3:20.46
First-year Mitchell Reynolds (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had a strong start, placing second in the 1000 freestyle (10:14.39) and with the free relay. He added a third place showing in the 500 with a time of 5:00.37. Classmate Nick Beard (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) touched the wall second in the 200 individual medley (2:06.07) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.65) to start his collegiate career.
Junior Alan Karickhoff (Willoughby, Ohio/Hawken School) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.26 and placed third in the 100 free, coming in at 51.33. Senior Cameron Phillips (Woburn, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) joined the winning medley relay and placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.28.
The Red Devils are in action again on Sunday, traveling to the University of Scranton for a 2:00 pm start.
