Unbeaten Bullets Hold Off Devils 49-41

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team turned in another strong effort, playing with unbeaten Gettysburg all the way to the end, but the Bullets would hold on for a 49-41 decision.

The Red Devils struck first and jumped out to an 11-6 lead over the opening seven minutes. Gettysburg countered with a 12-2 run of their own to pull in front, 18-13.

Sophomore Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) came on and drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to a field-goal. The Bullets built the lead back to five but strong free throw shooting down the stretch by the Red Devils kept the game close.

First-year Myonie Williamson (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) sank four straight free throws as the Devils hit 7-of-9 from the line in the final two minutes of the first half. That cut the deficit to three, 26-23, at the break.

Gettysburg came out of the break with a 10-0 run to take a 36-23 lead at the 10:25 mark. The Bullets scored in the opening minute before a scoring drought hit both teams over the next five minutes.

Sophomore Ellen Bair (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) triggered a rally with a three-pointer at the 9:10 mark as Dickinson went on an 11-4 clip to pull within six, 40-34, with 5:29 remaining in the game.

Senior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) buried a three-pointer to bring the Devils within five, 42-37, with 4:09 on the clock. That would be as close as they would get despite a solid effort down the stretch.

Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) was just shy of a double-double, scoring a team-high 13 points to go with nine rebounds. She hit 4-of-6 shots from the field and went 5-for-7 from the line.

Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tallied seven points, going 4-for-4 from the line. First-year Mairead Donahue (Trumball, Conn./St. Joseph) added six points, four rebounds and two steals while Schultz finished with five points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Williamson went 4-for-4 from the line as well as Dickinson hit 15-of-17 for the game.

Jessica Porter led Gettysburg (5-0, 3-0 CC) with a double-double night, scoring 18 points and controlling 14 rebounds. She went 8-for-8 from the line, adding two blocked shots and a steal.

The Red Devils slip to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again next Tuesday, hosting McDaniel College at 6:00 pm.
