Strong Rebounding Leads Mules Past Red Devils

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to Muhlenberg on Thursday night, falling 59-40, at the Kline Center.

The Mules used a strong start and finished with a solid run to secure the win. Muhlenberg was dominant on the boards as well, holding a 57-35 advantage, including 33 on the offensive end of the floor.

Senior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) put the Devils on the board with a three-pointer before the Mules built a 16-6 advantage in the first half.

The Devils scored back-to-back field-goals as sophomore Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) scored and assisted junior Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), with 7:55 remaining in the half. Muhlenberg stretched the lead back to double figures, leading 26-13 at the break.

Kennedy opened the second half with a pair of free throws before Nicole Pepe knocked-down a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 14. The Red Devils scored six straight to pull within five points at the 12:18 mark behind a lay-up, assist and two free throws from Schultz.

Pepe hit another three-pointer to extend a nine-point advantage to 54-37 at the 2:20 mark. The Mules would hold the lead for the final of 59-40.

Schultz finished with 11 points and five rebounds on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor. She was just shy of a perfect night, going 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the line. Sophomore Ellen Bair (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) reached double-figures with 10 points, adding a pair of steals.

First-year Mairead Donahue (Trumball, Conn./St. Joseph) played well off the bench, controlling a team-high nine rebounds to go with three points, an assist and a steal. Classmate Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) gave the Devils some strong minutes as well, grabbing five rebounds.

Pepe led Muhlenberg (3-3, 2-1 CC) with 14 points while Christina Santone controlled a game-high 16 rebounds, pulling 11 off the offensive glass, and blocking five shots. Lauren Tammany recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds on the night.

The Red Devils slip to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
