(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered another tough loss, falling on the road at Washington College on Saturday, 69-43.
The Red Devils struck first and held an 11-8 advantage at the 13:35 mark. The host Shorewomen went on a 14-1 run to take a double-digit lead, with 7:18 remaining in the half.
Junior Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) knocked-down a three-pointer to cut the margin to seven before Washington closed out the half with a 6-0 clip to lead, 32-19 at the break.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half before Washington stretched the lead again behind a three-pointer from Emily Hubley. Kelly Mitchell added three-pointers on three straight possessions to put Washington on top, 52-27, with 10:06 remaining in the game.
Washington remained in control for the rest of the contest. The Devils finished strong as first-year Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored back-to-back buckets, and classmate Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) hit a three-pointer and a lay-up to close out the game.
First-year Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) led the Red Devils with nine points, four rebounds and four steals, hitting 5-of-6 free throws on the day. Classmate Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) scored six points and made three steals while Phillips finished with six points, two assists and a steal.
Hubley and Mitchell each scored a game-high 13 points to lead Washington (6-13, 5-8). Hubley recorded eight rebounds and handed out eight assists. Mattox reached double-figures with 12 points.
The Red Devils slip to 4-14 overall and 1-12 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Gettysburg College on Wednesday night. The Red Devils tip-off at 8:00 pm, following the men's game.
