(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered another tough loss, falling at Johns Hopkins, 81-42, on Wednesday night in Baltimore.
The host Blue Jays jumped out early, taking a 12-0 lead in the opening five minutes. Hopkins built a 28-11 advantage at the midpoint of the first half after senior Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) knocked-down a three-pointer at the 7:22 mark.
The Blue Jays led, 40-15, at halftime, hitting 6-of-7 free throws while Beatriz Williams scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
After the break, Hopkins stretched the margin to 49-19 at the 15:15 mark. Sophomore Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and senior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) connected on back-to-back three pointers before the Blue Jays put together another run.
Hopkins continued to build the on lead in the second half as they improved to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Roberts led the Red Devils with nine points while sophomore Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) tallied seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Phillips and Schultz each added five points while Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) grabbed four rebounds.
Williams led Johns Hopkins (9-5, 6-2) with a double-double scoring 16 points while controlling 11 rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
