Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team gave a solid performance on Tuesday night, despite a 53-41 setback to Gettysburg College.
Senior Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) started things off for the Red Devils, converting a three-point play. Junior Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) followed up with a three-pointer to give Dickinson an early, 6-2 lead.
The Bullets went on a 9-0 run and would hold a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Gettysburg built the advantage to nine before Roberts answered with her second three-pointer to break up the 7-0 start by the Bullets.
The Red Devils continued the run with sophomore Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) converting a three-point play and Roberts knocked down another triple to pull Dickinson even at the 3:44 mark.
Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) traded field-goals with Emma Dorshimer and Jessica Porter hit a free throw to put Gettysburg in front, 23-22, at halftime.
The Bullets came out shooting as Dorshimer hit a pair of three-pointers to extend the lead to 10 at the 6:33 mark of the third quarter. The margin grew to 15 before Lindsey Zwecker (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) finished a nice dish from Roberts to close out the corner trailing 40-27.
Gettysburg scored first to start the fourth before Roberts drove to the basket for two and Kennedy hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 10. The lead swayed between 10 and 14 points until Roberts buried a three-pointer to pull Dickinson within nine at the 1:!7 mark.
The Bullets would hold on for the final of 53-41. Dorshimer led all scorers with a game-high 21 points behind a trio of three-pointers. Emily Duggan added nine points and eight rebounds as Gettysburg improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Roberts led the Red Devils with 17 points, hitting four three-pointers on the night. Kennedy reached double-figures with 10 points to go with seven rebounds.
Martin tallied six points and eight rebounds while Lesher finished with nine rebounds, five points, two steals and a blocked shot. Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) came on to add six rebounds and hand out a pair of assists.
The Red Devils slip to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the CC. They are on the road on Thursday, traveling to Ursinus College for a 7:00 pm start. They return to the Kline Center on Saturday to host Haverford College at 2:00 pm.
