Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team outscored visiting Haverford, 14-7, in the fourth quarter to secure a Centennial Conference win, holding off the 'Fords, 43-37, on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
First-year Jackie Joyce (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) hit an early free throw and junior Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) buried a three-pointer to give Dickinson a 4-0 lead.
Roberts added a lay-up and sophomore Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) made a steal and scored to counter a pair of three-pointers by Haverford to give the Devils an 8-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Joyce knocked down a three-pointer to start of the second period before Haverford went on a 9-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Macy Goldbach. Joyce answered with a short jumper and Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) grabbed a rebound and fed sophomore Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) for a lay-up to knot the game at 15.
Roberts sank another triple to give the Devils an 18-15 lead with 3:45 to play in the first half. Haverford answered with the final two field-goals of the half to lead 19-18, at the break.
Olivia Walsh opened the second half with a pair of triples as Haverford jumped out to a 27-20 lead, with 5:40 to play in the third.
Dickinson countered with a run of their own, erasing the deficit with a 9-0 run as five different players scored during the stretch. Tori Hopkins knocked down a three-pointer with 1:32 remaining to give the 'Fords a one-point edge, heading into the final period.
Kennedy engaged in a bit of a personal battle with the 'Fords, scoring seven points to start the quarter and put Dickinson up, 36-35, at the 6:33 mark.
A pair of Katie Cook free throws gave Haverford its last lead of the game with 5:56 on the clock. Those would also be the 'Fords' last points of the game as the Devils held them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Lesher gave Dickinson the lead for good and Roberts added a lay-up and two free throws to finish with a game-high 14 points. Roberts added five rebounds and three assists as well on the day.
Kennedy reached double-figures, scoring 10 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Lesher finished with a game-high eight rebounds and two steals while Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) controlled seven boards and made three steals.
Cook led Haverford with seven points and seven rebounds as they fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the CC. The Red Devils are off until January 3rd when the travel to Delaware Valley College for a 3:00 pm tip-off.
