Front-Running Terror Top Devils

Box Score

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team traveled to Centennial Conference front-runner McDaniel College on Wednesday night. The Green Terror entered the night with an 11-game winning streak, and extended that with a 63-41 win.

After a couple of misses on both ends, McDaniel opened with an 8-0 run. Sophomore Ellen Bair (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) put the Devils on the board with a free throw and classmate Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) scored, going coast-to-coast for a lay-up.

The Red Devils had a couple of solid possessions on the defensive end and Martin added a free throw to cut the lead in half. McDaniel finally answered with a baseline jumper from Shelby Taylor, with just under 14 minutes to play in the first half.

The Green Terror stretched the margin to 26-6, led by Lauren Bellanger and Karli Zeps.

Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) snapped the run with jumper from the wing at the 7:13 mark. The Red Devils cut the deficit to 28-12 with baskets from Martin, Kennedy and Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg).

Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and Martin sandwiched lay-ups around a score from Taylor, and Alyssa March closed out the half with a bucket in the paint to give McDaniel a 34-18 advantage at the break.

Steph Perez drained a three-pointer to open the second half, the Terror's first of the game. Lyndsey Nichols added a pair of free throws before Lesher buried a baseline jumper and followed up with a defensive rebound.

Bair knocked down a foul line jumper to make the score 41-23, with 16:54 remaining. March scored on the other end, giving her a game-high 10, but picked-up her third foul on the Devils' next possession.

Zeps scored four straight points to give McDaniel a 49-23 advantage at the 13 minute mark. Mairead Donahue (Trumball, Conn./St. Joseph) blocked a shot and Bair converted on the break with another foul line jumper.

Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) scored on a nice backdoor cut and later dished a beautiful assist to Martin on the same play.

Perez drained a three-pointer to put the Terror on top, 56-29, with just under six minutes to play in the game.

Senior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) put back a rebound and hit a three-pointer, and Smith knocked down a jumper. Following a three-point play from Jasmine Smith, Myonie Williamson (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) scored and Bair hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final of 65-41.

Martin led the Red Devils with eight points and nine rebounds while Bair finished with eight points and four rebounds. Schultz and Smith tallied seven and six points, respectively, while Lesher controlled five rebounds.

Three players reached double-figures for McDaniel (21-1, 14-1 CC), led by March with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Red Devils slip to 5-17 overall and 3-14 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Bryn Mawr College on Saturday as part of the Dickinson REDOUT Event, tipping off at 2:00 pm, followed by the #9-ranked Red Devil men taking on #10-Johns Hopkins.
