Box Score (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven straight, erupting in the second quarter, en route to a 76-44 win at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers to put the Red Devils up, 6-0. Dickinson worked the ball inside to Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) to build the lead to 16-6.
Erica Dwyer closed out the quarter with five straight free throws to cut the deficit to 16-11. Martin made a steal and scored on back-to-back possessions to trigger an 11-4 run to start the second quarter. The Devils built the lead to 34-19 at halftime, outscoring the hosts, 14-2, in the paint and 8-2 off the bench.
The Devils kept the pressure on to open the second half, stretching the lead to 29, in the first four minutes. Roberts buried a pair of three-pointers with Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) adding triples as well.
Dwyer tried to get something started with a three of her own, but first-year Jonica Brown (Mohnton, Pa./The Hill School) immediately countered with a triple on the other end.
Dickinson led, 59-30 at the end of the third quarter. Lindsey Zwecker (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) struck first in the fourth before the Owls put together a small run. Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) knocked down a three-pointer to stall the rally.
Dwyer finished with a game-high 21 points, hitting 12-of-13 free throws to lead Bryn Mawr (3-14).
Martin tallied 15 points and five rebounds while handing out five assists to lead the way for Dickinson. She added four steals and went 6-for-7 from the field. Roberts went 4-for-4 from long range, scoring 12 points while Jackie Joyce (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Lesher recorded seven points and seven rebounds. Zwecker grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and Brielle Smith (Royersford, Pa./The Hill School) came on to score eight points.
The Red Devils improve to 11-6 overall with their seventh straight win. They return to Centennial Conference action on Tuesday in a key match-up with visiting McDaniel College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
