(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's swim team suffered a 117-88 setback in the season opener against Ursinus College on Saturday. The Red Devils had some strong swims and multiple wins but the depth of the Bears made the difference.
Sophomore Ben Shapiro (Wynnewood, Pa./Friends Central) led-off the winning 400 medley relay (3:36.72) and added another win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.81. He was second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.38.
Senior Alex Bennett (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) anchored the 400 free relay to a second place finish and placed second in the 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 49.37 and 1:47.80.
Senior Sam Eaton (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) was a double-winner on the day, swimming the anchor leg of the medley relay and winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.10. Sophomore Kiernan Jordan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) joined the medley relay and won the 200 butterfly with a mark of 1:59.41.
First-year Will Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) finished third in the breaststroke (2:18.98) and second, just behind Shapiro in the IM with a time of 2:03.01. Classmate Graham Novitch (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) was second with the free relay, third in the 200 back (2:03.45) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.78).
Sophomore Kevin Potocki (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) led-off the free relay (3:19.15), placing second in the 50 freestyle (22.96) and fourth in 100 free with a time of 50.15.
Junior Mitch Reynolds (Frederick, Md./Frederick) showed well in the distance events, placing second in the 1000 (10:16.09) and 500 freestyle (5:03.63). Classmate Nick Beard (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.64).
Senior Travis Lipscomb (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) anchored the winning medley relay and joined the third place medley as well.
The Red Devils slip to 0-1 to start the season. They travel to the McDonogh School next Saturday to face Lycoming College and Stevenson University in a tri-meet at 2:00 pm.
