(Annapolis, Md.) – The Dickinson men's squash team traveled to the U.S. Naval Academy for a pair of matches against the host midshipmen and the University of Virginia at the Navy Round Robin.
The Red Devils opened the day with a tough match against Navy, falling 9-0. Sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School) dropped a 3-0 decision in the top flight, but had three strong sets (15-13, 11-8, 11-6).
Sophomore Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) claimed the first set in the sixth flight before dropping four-set decision (8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6). Classmate Vincent Warzecha (Chester Springs, Pa./Malvern Prep) battled in the eighth flight, falling in a five-set marathon (11-13, 12-10, 11-1, 12-14, 11-7).
Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Alex Wattles (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) had solid performances in the second and third flights as well.
Elsergany traded games in a tough 3-2 setback against Virginia, (11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9). Haloppa won a hard fought third, 13-11 before falling in four sets in the second flight (11-5, 11-9, 11-13, 11-8).
Andrew Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) put up a strong challenge in the fourth flight, but fell 3-2. Litman turned in another solid performance (11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9) and first-year Zachary Najera (Vienna, Va./Episcopal) claimed a set in the seven spot.
The Red Devils slip to 2-2 on the season. They travel to the Cornell University Round Robin next weekend.
