(Middletown, Conn.) – The Dickinson men's squash team, ranked 27th in the CSA national poll, topped #20 Wesleyan University in its first match on Sunday morning, posting a 7-2 decision. The Devils suffered an 8-1 setback to #17 Bates College in the second half of the double-header.
Sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) started things off against Wesleyan, winning the top flight, 3-1.
The hosts claimed the next two before the Devils closed out the match with six straight as Dickinson dropped just one set in the final four flights. Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) led the way with a 3-0 decision in the seventh.
Bates had a strong line-up but the Devils played some solid matches in the nightcap. Alex Wattles (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) claimed a set in the third flight before falling in a hard fought battle (11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8).
Litman earned the Devils' lone point with a 3-0 sweep, winning (13-11, 11-7, 11-6).
The Red Devils move to 4-6 on the season. They return to action on January 14th, joining Middlebury College at Franklin & Marshall for a tri-match at 2:00 pm.
