Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team improved to 4-0 in Centennial Conference play, holding off a late run by visiting Gettysburg to post a 65-61 win on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils broke a 6-6 tie with a 6-0 run and closed out the first quarter with a 16-9 lead behind eight points from senior Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale).

Sophomore Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) opened the second quarter with a trio of three-pointers to put the Red Devils out in front, 25-11, at the 8:04 mark. Kiera Cesareo answered with a three-pointer as Gettysburg closed the gap to 10 before senior Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) hit a shot at the buzzer to give Dickinson a 34-22 lead at halftime.

The Bullets started to chip away at the lead but the Devils remained in front by 10 at the midpoint of the third quarter. An Emma Hahner three-pointer cut the deficit to a field-goal before Dickinson built the lead back to five at the end of the period.

First-year Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./St. Gill Bernard's) hit a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter but Gettysburg went on a 7-0 run to pull within one at the 7:39 mark. The Bullets tied the game at 54, but Martin hit a jumper and Roberts sank her sixth three-pointer of the game for a five-point edge, with 3:50 remaining in regulation.

Heiring hit a free throw with just 15 seconds on the clock to put the Devils up, 62-59. Emma Dorshimer drew a foul on a three-pointer and the thoughts of yet another overtime affair started to fill the arena. Dorshimer hit 2-of-3 from the line and the Bullets were forced to foul.

Roberts hit the second and Heiring stole the ball and was fouled with two seconds remaining. She hit both ends to secure the win, 65-61, as Dickinson improves to 7-1 overall.

Roberts finished with a game-high 22 points, hitting six three-pointers for the second time this season while handing out three assists. Martin turned in another dominant performance, scoring 16 points and controlling seven rebounds to go with a game-high seven assists and three steals.

Lesher had another strong night on the glass as well, pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds, scoring four points and dishing out two assists. Heiring was 3-for-3 from long range, reaching double-figures with 14 points and hitting 5-of-6 free throws on the night.
