Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team celebrated senior day with a big win over visiting Swarthmore College, turning back the Garnet, 71-56, on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
The Red Devils took control of the game, right out of the gate. Junior Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) drained a three-pointer to put Dickinson on the board and dished an assist to Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) to stretch the lead to 14-4.
The Devils led 15-7 at the end of the first and started the second with Roberts handing out a pair of assists for a 19-7 advantage. Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) came away with a pair of steals and Roberts scored on a pair of lay-ups as the lead grew to 28-10 at the 5:43 mark of the second quarter.
First-year Jackie Joyce (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) traded field-goals with Jessica Jowdy and Roberts knocked down a three-pointer to put Dickinson out in front, 33-12.
The Devils outscored the visitors 14-6 in the paint to take a 37-16 lead into halftime. The third quarter would have a similar outcome to the second as the Devils knocked down four three-pointers to extend the margin to 49-17.
Martin scored back-to-back field-goals for the Devils' biggest lead of the afternoon before Jowdy broke up the run with a three-pointer at the 2:48 mark.
Sophomore Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) added another three-pointer at the end of the quarter to put Dickinson up, 58-26.
Jowdy and Bridget Davis led a furious run for the Garnet in the fourth quarter, trying to chip away at the lead. The lead was simply too large to overcome as the Devils improved to 13-9 overall and 9-7 in the Centennial Conference.
Jowdy finished with 35 points to lead the Garnet as they slip to 5-18 overall and 3-13 in the conference.
Roberts was flirting with a triple-double on the day, scoring 21 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists in just 24 minutes of action. She went 5-for-5 from three-point land, adding a pair of blocked shots.
Lesher finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and controlling a game-high 10 rebounds. Martin matched Lesher with 10 boards, scoring nine points, hading out four assists and recording three steals. Kennedy finished with four points, five rebounds and two assists while Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) hit a pair of three-pointers and dished out two assists. Mairead Donohue (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) tallied six rebounds.
The Red Devils are on the road to close out the regular season. They travel to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday and then to Franklin & Marshall next Saturday for a pair of key conference match-ups.
