Box Score (Baltimore, Md.) – Junior guard Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) scored the first six points of the game for the Red Devils on the way to a game-high 20, leading Dickinson to a 55-44 win at Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night.
The win gives the Devils a series sweep over the Blue Jays as they improve to 14-9 overall and move into fourth in the Centennial Conference standings with a mark of 10-7. They secure a spot in the conference playoffs, having swept Haverford as well. Ursinus still has two games to play with a 9-7 mark and split its series with the 'Fords, 1-1.
Roberts scored back-to-back jumpers to give the Devils a 6-4 advantage before the host Blue Jays went on a run to lead 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) added a pair of free throws and Mairead Donahue (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph), scored to open the second to cut the score to 13-10.
Hopkins pulled in front 17-10 before Roberts knocked down a three-pointer and Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) scored to cut the lead to a field-goal. The Devils closed out the half with a 12-0 run to erase a 20-16 deficit.
Lesher hit two more free throws and junior Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) tallied six points in the run. Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) hit a pair of jumpers, scoring with six seconds left to put Dickinson on top, 28-20 at the half.
Roberts netted seven points in the third quarter, with the Devils holding a six point advantage, 39-33.
Senior Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) started off the fourth with a three-pointer, but Hopkins would rally to cut the lead to four. Smith scored on back-to-back possessions and Kennedy scored off a steal by Martin to stretch the margin to double-figures.
Lesher and Roberts would go 5-for-6 from the line in the final two minutes to secure the win, 55-44.
Beatriz Williams led the Blue Jays (11-13, 8-9 CC) with 11 points and nine rebounds. Liz Tommasi handed out six assists.
Roberts led the Red Devils with 20 points, hitting 7-of-10 free throws. Lesher controlled a game-high 16 rebounds, adding seven points on 5-of-7 shooting from the line. Smith reached double-figures with 11 points, adding five rebounds. Martin grabbed nine rebounds, adding six points, two assists and two steals.
The Red Devils improve to 14-9 overall and 10-7 in the Centennial Conference. They close out the regular season schedule at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, tipping off at 1:00 pm.
