Box Score (Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 73-64 win at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The Red Devils spoiled senior day while securing the #4-seed in next week's Centennial Conference playoffs and will host the first round game on Wednesday.
The Red Devils broke a 6-6 tie with an 8-0 run in the first quarter. Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) knocked-down back-to-back three-pointers to put Dickinson up, 14-6, with 5:09 to play in the quarter.
The Diplomats made a run of their own to pull within three. Roberts added a late field-goal and scored early in the second to give the Devils a 20-13 lead to start the second quarter. Sam Kennedy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) hit a three-pointer and a jumper to make the score 25-19, with just over four minutes to play in the half.
Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) hit a pair of free throws to stretch the margin to 27-19 before Sarah Haddon hit a pair of foul shots and handed out an assist to cut the deficit to four.
Roberts buried a three-pointer and traded field-goals with Lindsey Powers to give Dickinson a 32-25 advantage at the break.
Erica Brown scored back-to-back field-goals for the Diplomats to open the second half before Roberts answered with another three-pointer. Lesher hit two more from the charity stripe and Kennedy scored to give the Devils a 10-point lead with 7:54 remaining in the third.
Haley Pilone hit three free throws and Annemarie DiCarlo scored to cut the lead in half. The teams traded baskets as the Devils tried to gain some separation. First-year Jackie Joyce (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) came on to hit a three-pointer at the end of the period to put Dickinson in front, 47-38.
Sophomore Mairead Donahue (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) knocked down a pair of jumpers to start the fourth and Lesher later hit two more free throws to stretch the Devils' lead to 11, with 6:38 remaining in the game.
Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) came on strong in the fourth quarter and Skerritt gave the Devils quality minutes down the stretch as well.
Dickinson was solid from the line, hitting 12 of their final 16 attempts to secure the win and home court for Wednesday.
Four players reached double-figures for the Red Devils, led by Roberts with a game-high 22 points, adding nine rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Martin finished with 15 points and five rebounds, handing out three assists and recording four steals.
Kennedy and Skerritt tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Lesher had another strong game on the boards, controlling 10 rebounds and going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Haddon led Franklin & Marshall with a double-double, scoring 18 points and recording 16 rebounds. The Diplomats finish 6-19 overall and 4-14 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 15-9 overall and 11-7 in the conference. They will host either Haverford College or Ursinus on Wednesday night.
