(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's squash team returned to the courts, traveling to Franklin & Marshall to face the #13-ranked Diplomats and #16-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday. The #22-ranked Red Devils had a pair of tough matches, falling 7-2 to Middlebury and 8-1 to host F&M.
In the opener versus Middlebury, sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School) claimed the top flight with a 3-0 sweep (11-8, 11-8, 11-7). Classmate Vincent Warzecha (Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) overcame an 11-9 setback in the first set to take a 2-1 lead with 11-4 and 11-5 before his opponent retired to earn the Devils' second point.
Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) won the first set before falling 3-1 in the second flight. The Devils went 3-1 in the third and fourth, and in the sixth with strong play from Andrew Strudwick (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley), Alex Wattles (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) and Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion).
Elsergany survived a tough match in the top spot to claim the point against F&M. Wattles went four sets, falling (11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10) while Harrison Mayo (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) took a set in the fifth.
The Red Devils slip to 4-8 overall. They travel to Connecticut College next Thursday for a 4:00 pm start and then on to Boston for a series of matches on Friday and Saturday.
