Box Score (Chestertown, Md.) – Centennial Conference leader Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) had another strong performance from long range on Saturday, going 7-for-11 from three-point land to lead the Dickinson women's basketball team to a huge win in Chestertown, topping Washington College, 81-55.
Roberts moved into third on the program's single season list for 47 three-pointers on the year. She led the Red Devils with a game-high 23 points on Saturday.
Dickinson jumped out to 13-0 start and led by 13 at halftime. The Devils outscored the hosts, 17-8, in both the first and third quarters and held a 30-14 advantage on points-in-the-paint.
Roberts opened the game with a three-pointer from the top of the arc and the Red Devils were rolling, rattling off the first 13 points of the game. The senior guard hit a pair of triples in the second quarter, both times stretching the lead to double-figures.
Washington trailed by seven with 3:29 to play in the half before the Devils closed things out with a 9-3 run to lead, 41-28, at the break.
Roberts gave Dickinson a 13-point lead with a three-pointer at the 6:29 mark of the third quarter. Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) and first-year Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) turned in strong quarters as the Devils extended the margin to 22.
First-year Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) knocked down a three-pointer to end the period with the Devils on top, 58-36.
The Devils held that margin for the remainder of the game, stretching the lead to as many as 29, late in the fourth.
Roberts hit 8-of-13 shots from the field for her game-high 23 points. Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) turned in an outstanding performance as well, scoring 15 points and recording seven rebounds. She also played a huge supporting role, dishing out a career-high eight assists while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Lesher tallied game-highs of 11 rebounds and three steals, adding eight points on 6-of-8 shooting from the line. Padalino and classmate Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) scored nine and eight points, respectively, while McBride finished with six points and eight rebounds. Senior Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) chipped in with six points and three assists.
Caitlyn Clark led Washington with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists as the Shorewomen fall to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The Red Devils improve to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play. They are on the road again on Wednesday, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for a 6:00 pm tip-off with the Diplomats.
