Box Score (Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team turned in a dominant performance at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night, posting a 62-39 win over the Diplomats.
The Red Devils stormed out to an 11-2 lead and finished the first quarter with a 22-8 advantage. The stifling defensive effort held the Diplomats scoreless through the opening five minutes of the second quarter as Dickinson stretched the margin to 34-12 at the break.
Seniors Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) led the early charge for the Red Devils. Dickinson used just a trio of three-pointers to build the first-half lead. Roberts hit one in the first with Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) and first-year Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) adding triples in the second.
Roberts scored twice and followed up a Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) lay-up with a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 42-12 before F&M answered with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter.
That triggered an 8-0 run for the Diplomats before Skerritt knocked down a three-pointer and converted a three-point play to make the score, 48-20. Roberts followed up with another three-pointer, stretching the lead to 31, after three quarters of play.
F&M had its strongest offensive output in the fourth, but was unable to make up much ground as the Red Devils kept pace over the final 10 minutes.
Sarah Haddon led the Diplomats with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as they fall to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference.
Roberts led the way with a game-high 21 points, going 5-for-5 from the free throw line, adding a pair of rebounds and two steals. Martin tallied 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals while Lesher controlled nine rebounds and blocked two shots.
Skerritt reached double-figures with 10 points, adding seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
