Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 69-50 win over visiting Washington College, celebrating senior day on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
The Red Devils started all five seniors and jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Senior Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) opened the game with a three-pointer and hit a jumper at the 1:11 mark to put the Devils up, 13-6, before Bridget McLaughlin scored in the final seconds.
First-years Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) and Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) came off the bench to lead the charge in the second half as the Red Devils built the lead to 32-21, at halftime.
Roberts knocked down another three-pointer, early in the third quarter to keep the lead at 11. First-year Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./St. Gill Bernard's) stretched the lead to 43-29, completing an and-one with 4:47 to play in the period.
Heiring finished a three-point play and sophomore Dina Dahdul (West Springfield, Mass./Williston Northampton) buried a three-pointer to give the Devils a 54-37 advantage at the end of the third.
Senior Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) countered an early bucket by Washington and sophomore Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) drained a three-pointer off an assist from Roberts to extend the margin to 20.
Skerritt and Padalino put together back-to-back triples and Padalino added a free throw to give Dickinson its biggest lead of the game, 68-43, with 3:44 remaining. The Shorewomen cut into the deficit over the last three minutes for the final of 69-50.
Four Red Devils reached double-figures on the afternoon as the underclassmen gave the seniors a great send off. Padalino led the way with a game-high 13 points and four rebounds while Heiring tallied 10 points and four rebounds, going 5-for-5 from the line.
Roberts and Smith each scored 10 points and controlled three rebounds while Roberts dished out four assists. Skerritt finished 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for nine points with McBride chipping in with eight.
Seniors Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Lindsey Zwecker (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) turned in strong performances as well while Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) finished with five points, six rebounds, four steals and an assist. She becomes the first player in program history to record 1,000 points, 650 rebounds and 200 assists in her career.
McLaughlin led Washington with 12 points and five rebounds as the Shorewomen fall to 9-16 overall and 6-14 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 18-7 overall and 15-5 in the conference. They will face Muhlenberg College in one of the conference semifinals at Haverford College on Friday. Times will be announced on Monday.
