Shapiro Sets School Record in 100 IM

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's swim team had a strong showing against visiting Messiah College on Tuesday night. The Red Devils posted 10 wins to turn back the Falcons, 144-58.

Senior Ben Shapiro (Wynnewood, Pa./Friends' Central) was a triple-winner, capturing the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.81 and the 100-breaststoke in 1:02.40. He added this third win of the night with a school record of 54.89 in the 100-yard individual medley.

First-year Logan Cort (Brookeville, Md./Mercersburg) claimed both distance events, touching the wall first in 10:26.07 to take the 1000-freestyle and clocked a time of 5:04.72 in the 500.

Junior James Cummings (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) was second in the 1000 with a time of 11:02.47 while Tyler Catania (Spotswood, N.J./St. Joseph) finished second in the 500 with a mark of 5:12.27.

First-year Ben Shoul (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) anchored the 200-medley relay to the win with a time of 1:41.20. He won the 50-freestyle (22.48) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.45).

The Red Devils went one-two-three in the butterfly and breaststroke events. Senior Kiernan Jordan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) won the butterfly with a time of 53.99 and swam the lead leg of the medley relay. Classmate Dylan Gilhooly (Darien, Conn./Darien) claimed third in the butterfly.

First-year Cameron McConagha (Broadlands, Va./Briar Woods) was second in the breaststroke with a time of 1:02.66 and placed third in the 100-yard individual medley. Will Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) was third in the 100-breastroke, swimming the lead leg of the medley relay and adding a second-place finish in the individual medley (56.07).

Sophomore Liam Pauli (Delran, N.J./Delran) earned the win in the 100-yard backstroke (55.57) while first-year Damon St. Prix (Barbados/The Peddie School, N.J.) had a great finish to win the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:49.57.

The Red Devils improve to 4-2 on the season. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to the Gettysburg Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
