Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team had a great start against visiting Haverford, but a strong second half led the 'Fords to a 49-44 win on Saturday.
The Red Devils came out hot, hitting six three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 22-8 lead at the first break.
Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) sank a pair of three-pointers as the Red Devils dropped four to jump out to a 12-0 advantage. Padalino would hit another later and junior Hannah Peck (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) scored a pair of baskets to end the period.
Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) hit a triple to put Dickinson up by 15 before an 11-0 run by Haverford cut the deficit to 25-21.
Peck knocked down a three-pointer and first-year Kate Montgomery (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) hit a pair of free throws to give Dickinson a 32-23 lead at halftime.
Haverford edged the Red Devils, 11-9, in the third quarter to make the score 41-34. They opened the fourth with an 8-0 clip to pull in front at the 6:24 mark.
Montgomery hit a jumper to tie the game at 44 with just under two minutes to play. The 'Fords added a field-goal and three free throws in the final minute to secure the win, 49-44.
Peck led the Red Devils with 13 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals while Padalino reached double figures with 12 points, adding seven rebounds on the afternoon.
Montgomery finished with nine points and five rebounds, going 4-for-4 from the line. Maeda tallied six points and three steals while Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) added five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
The Red Devils slip to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road next week, traveling to Susquehanna University on Wednesday night for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
