Red Devils Make Late Run But Fall to #25 Bullets

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team overcame a slow start but rallied in the second and third quarters before falling to #25-ranked Gettysburg, 62-52, on Wednesday night at the Kline Center.

The Bullets stormed out to a 25-6 lead in the opening quarter, but the Red Devils started to turn the tables, outscoring the visitors, 21-13, in the second.

First-year Mia Kolb (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) scored the first basket of the second and knocked down a three-pointer to get the Red Devils started.

Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) and Kolb buried back-to-back three-pointers and Maura Leverone (Herndon, Va./Bishop O'Connell) scored off an assist from Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) to cut the deficit to 11 at the midpoint of the period.

Kolb closed out the half with a late bucket to keep the Red Devils in striking distance at 38-27.

Padalino hit a three-pointer, dished an assist to Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) and scored again to pull Dickinson within seven at the end of the third quarter.

Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) grabbed a defensive rebound and scored on the other end to cut the margin to just five at the 6:40 mark of the fourth quarter. Maeda later pulled down another rebound and found Leverone at the elbow to make the score 51-47.

Carly Rice hit a big three-pointer for Gettysburg and the Bullets were able to hold off the Devils down the stretch.

Kolb finished with a team-high 16 points, hitting 7-of-9 shots while adding eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Padalino went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, scoring 12 points to go with three rebounds and three assists.

Deutsch reached double-figures with 12 points, adding rebounds. Maeda tallied six points, four rebounds and three assists while Leverone finished with four points, five rebounds and three steals. Maira handed out five assists and had three rebounds as well.

The Red Devils move to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College at 2:00 pm.
