Box Score

(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team had a strong showing at Johns Hopkins on Thursday night, but the host Blue Jays would come away with a 51-40 win.

Both teams were relentless on defense in the opening quarter as Hopkins scored the only three points of the game until a second three-pointer at the 1:58 mark put the hosts up, 6-0.

The Blue Jays added another triple and a lay-up to take an 11-2 lead at the end of the first quarter with Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) putting the Red Devils on the board.

Another defensive stalemate in the second saw the Blue Jays stretch the lead to just 14-4 in the opening three minutes. Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to make the score 26-14 at halftime.

Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) scored and knocked down a three-pointer to keep the Red Devils in the hunt, 32-19, with 6:51 to play in the third quarter.

Maeda scored twice and fed first-year Mia Kolb (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) off a steal to cut the deficit to nine with 2:26 to play in the period. Kolb added another field-goal to pull Dickinson with seven, 34-27.

Kolb hit a three to pull Dickinson with eight early in the fourth before the Blue Jays used a 10-2 run to stretch the margin to 49-33.

The Red Devils held the hosts scoreless for the final 4:12 of the game but they would hold on for the 51-40 decision.

Kolb and Kremp each finished with seven points on the night while Kolb came away with four steals as well. Maeda tallied six points, five rebounds and three steals and senior Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored six points and grabbed five rebounds.
