Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball shot just 3-17 (1-7 from three) in the opening quarter and was never able to right the ship as they finished the game going 20-55 (36.4%) as the visiting Gettysburg College Bullets earned a 60-50 Centennial Conference win on Thursday night at the Kline Center.
Gettysburg began the game fast taking a 6-1 lead over the opening five minutes with the only home point coming on a foul shot by Gina Neigel. The Devils scored the next five with Clair Marion netting a layup and Caitlin Blackman sticking a three to tie the score. Unfortunately, a Kate Montgomery "and one" play was Dickinson's only points the remainder of the period as the Bullets ended on a 10-3 push for a 16-9 edge after one.
Jennifer Kremp and Mackenzie Szlosek exchanged triples to start the second before a Rebecca Blaszczyk layup made it 21-12 with 7:08 to go. Mia Kolb split a pair at the line while Blackman and Marion added jumpers during a 5-2 stretch to close within 23-17 at the halfway point of the frame. The Bullets extended the margin to 31-18 thanks in part to triples from Carly Rice and Szlosek. Montgomery tallied a layup and two foul shots over the final 1:42 to account for the Devils scoring as they went to the break down 36-22.
Neigel converted a layup 50-seconds into the third, but that sparked a 6-0 visitor run capped off by a Hannah Sauve jumper to make it 42-24 at the 2:16 mark. Over the next three minutes, Abby John and Montgomery tried to bring the Red and Black back into the game as they cut the deficit to 45-30. Mackenzie Tinner brought a halt to run as she scored the next point four points to push the margin back to 49-30. Indatou Ali-Goukoye netted her first bucket in a Dickinson uniform with 1:45 remaining and Blackman chipped in a jumper at the horn to send the game to the fourth at 51-34.
Montgomery scored the Devils first four points of the fourth but was not able to cut into the lead as Szlosek hit from long-range to bump the advantage to 56-38. Marion finished off two layups and buried a three-pointer to help Dickinson close within 58-47 with 1:33 left. After a turnover by Shinya Lee, Kayla Rose picked the ball up off the floor and found Jenna Weinstein for a layup to bring the lead under double-digits (58-49).
