Slow Third Quarter Too Much for Devils to Overcome

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team was outscored 11-5 in the third period to watch a 27-27 halftime time fall by the wayside as the visiting Haverford College Fords went on to earn a 55-47 Centennial Conference win on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center. Jennifer Kremp and Gina Neigel led the Red and Black in scoring with 16 and 13 respectively.

The Fords grabbed the early 2-0 lead with an Ally Landau layup, but DC answered back immediately with consecutive Kremp triples making it 6-2 with 2:15 gone. Jumpers from Kate Montgomery and Neigel stretched the home lead to 10-4 just under five minutes left. A Kremp three was the only bright spot for the Devils during a 13-3 Haverford charge to take a 17-13 advantage with 26-ticks to go. Jenna Weinstein hit a running layup at the horn to bring it 17-15 after one.

Neigel finished off two tough layups and Mia Kolb added a foul shot to cap a 5-0 Devils run over the opening 4:20 of the second to reclaim a 20-17 edge. The Fords answered back with eight straight points thanks in part to four from Caroline Andersen to make it 25-20 with 2:21 left. The Red and Black would go to the break level at 27-27 after Caitlin Blackman and Kremp knocked down shots from distance, while Weinstein added a free throw.

Kayla Robinson and Landau both tallied early in the third for the 31-27 advantage before Montgomery hit from the mid-range at the 4:09 mark. The two sides split the next six points with Ella Smith and Neigel supplying the DC offense. Haverford netted the final four points of the quarter to take a 38-32 lead to the fourth.

Andersen and Landau scored inside the first two minutes of the frame, while Kremp converted one-of-two on the line to make it 42-33. Andersen would push the lead to double-digits at 43-33 with a free throw. The following eight points were shared with Neigel and Weinstein scoring for the Red and Black. Free throws from Kremp and a pair of layups by Blackman cut the deficit to 51-45 with 42-seconds remaining. However, they would get no closer as Landau knocked down four free throws for the 55-47 final.
