GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Dickinson women's basketball team put two players in double-figures on Thursday night as
Clair Marion and
Kate Montgomery combined for 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Red Devils earned their third-straight Centennial Conference win with a 48-43 road victory against Gettysburg College at Bream Gymnasium.
The Devils were out of the blocks quick with layups from Marion and Montgomery. However, Mackenzie Szlosek and Emily Violante answered back for the home side to draw even at 4-4 just over two minutes in. The two sides traded the next two buckets as Montgomery and Szlosek scored for their respective sides. Gettysburg grabbed their first lead with 3:48 to go when Kylie Holcomb stepped outside the arc to knock down a three making it 9-6. She would then try another one on the ensuing trip down the floor, but hit the side of the rim which led to
Caitlin Blackman hitting a pull-up jumper. The Red and White reclaimed the lead heading into the second as Montgomery buried a trey from the top of the key for the 11-9 edge after one.
Dickinson started the second fast as well with
Lindsey Hollenshead and
Mia Kolb both recording layups to stretch the margin to 15-9 with just one minute off the clock. After missing their first three shots of the period Alayna Arnolie notched five straight to aid a 7-0 charge for the Bullets over a 1:33 span to take a 16-15 advantage prompting a DC timeout. The Red and White finally ended a five-minute plus scoring drought when Marion finished off at the rim, unfortunately AB Holsinger responded with a layup of her own to keep GC ahead 18-17. Dickinson closed out the half strong netting six of the final eight points on scores from
Mia Chapman, Blackman, and Marion to lead 23-20 heading to the break.
The Red and White were the first to hit the bottom of the net in the third as Marion drove hard to the cup for two. Then, an "old-fashioned" three-point play for Gettysburg cut it to 25-23 prior to Marion converting again to make it 27-23 three minutes in. A minute later Marion knocked down two on the charity stripe to give her a dozen on the night, before Chapman and Hollenshead each added buckets to advance the margin to double-digits 33-23 at the 6:06 mark. The home side answered back with a 7-1 run thanks to four different scorers closing to within 34-30. Montgomery would notch the final basket of the period with a tip-in buzzer-beating layup.
Arnolie hit two on the line to kickoff the scoring in the fourth, before
Gina Neigel finished off a spinning layup in the lane drawing the foul in the process. She knocked down the freebie to make it 39-32 with seven minutes remaining in the game. Blackman and Lee exchanged buckets at the halfway point of the quarter keeping the Devils in front by seven (41-34). The two teams traded the next eight points as Blackman and Montgomery helped the Red and White maintain a 45-38 lead inside the final minute. Blackman, Marion, and Montgomery each converted one of two foul shots down the stretch to cap off the 48-43 win.
