Devils Roll Into Finals Week With Fifth Straight Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Dickinson sophomore Clair Marion continued her torrid pace to begin the 2022-23 campaign, by notching her first career double-double with 28 points and ten boards to lead the Red and White past Susquehanna University 46-31 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Houts Gymnasium.

The teams struggled to find the bottom of the basket early in the first as the two sides combined to go 0-for-14 over the opening four-plus minutes until Julia Pinckert knocked home a triple off a feed from Kenzie Selvaggi. Dickinson missed their next shot as well as two on the line by Kate Montgomery until Clair Marion delivered from long-range twice for the 6-3 edge with 2:22 to go. With 90-seconds left Pinckert drilled her second three of the period to draw even, before Alicia Goldenziel beat the horn with a layup.

The Devils continued to have issues finding their touch from the floor as they missed their first three shots, while Kaitlyn Lynch tallied five straight to make it 13-6 with less than a minute gone. Caitlin Blackman finally stopped the cold spell for DC with a jumper from Montgomery, but Selvaggi answered right back pushing it to 15-8 at the 2:32 mark. The two sides traded the next eight points with Jenna Weinstein and Marion scoring for the Devs to hold the margin at seven 19-12 with less than three to play. Weinstein would add one final bucket with just 15-ticks remaining to close within 19-14 at the break.

Dickinson began the third strong as Marion scored nine points during an 11-0 romp that was aided by a jumper from Gina Neigel to send DC to the front 25-21 at the six minute mark. Lindsey Hollenshead made her way to the scoresheet with 6:41 off the clock when she was setup by Marion. Marion then added another three points to her ledger on the next trip down the floor extending the margin to seven at 30-23 at the end of three.

Two more Marion triples and a finish in the point by Montgomery capped off an 8-0 charge over the opening four minutes to bump the lead to double-digits 38-23. A basket for Isabella Schwabe stopped the run for a brief moment, before free throws by Mia Kolb and Marion made it 43-25. Indatou Ali-Goukoye and Victoria Zerbe also added to the Devils total late in the fourth as they closed out the 46-31 victory.
