Devils Rack Up Fifth Straight Win With Season Sweep of Diplomats

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team had three of their five starters post double-digits en route to a comfortable 67-50 Centennial Conference win on Wednesday night over the rival Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats at the Mayser Center.

The Red and White jumped out to the early lead as Gina Neigel scored inside and Jennifer Kremp knocked down a long shot from deep for the 5-0 lead. Natalie Kolb and Kenna Williams helped the home side to chip away at the deficit making it 8-4. Dickinson would extend the lead to six twice at 11-5 on a foul shot by Neigel and 13-7 after Neigel finished off a reserve layup. A 7-2 F&M run cut the margin to 15-14, but four straight by Caitlin Blackman had DC on top 19-14 after one.

Dickinson began the second period scorching hot as they went on a 13-0 run over the opening 4:25 with Kate Montgomery accounting for eight of the points, while Mia Kolb, Clair Marion, and Neigel added buckets for the guests to take a 32-14 advantage. Jenna Weinstein hit a pull-up jumper from just inside the arc during a 5-2 F&M stretch to close within 34-19. However, Blackman beat the buzzer with a jumper to head to the break in front 36-19.

Blackman and Williams traded buckets to start the third, but then four Kolb free throws bookended a 9-2 Devils run to push the lead to 47-25 with 5:12 to go. The two sides traded the next eight points with Montgomery scoring all four for Dickinson to keep the margin over 20 at 51-29. Weinstein would add a pair of tough finishes in the lane to give the Red and White a commanding 55-33 advantage after 30 minutes.

To begin the final frame Indatou Ali-Goukoye and Kennedy Wilburn exchanged "old-fashioned" three-point plays before the Diplomats netted seven in a row finished off by a Williams layup to make it 58-43 with 6:38 remaining. Baskets by Blackman and Montgomery coupled with a Marion three from the right-wing stunted the home momentum as the lead went to 65-47. Ella Smith notched the final bucket for DC at the 8:00 minute mark to seal up the 67-50 win.
