CARLISLE, Pa. - Sophomore
Alexander Kanard and First-Year
James Wright each won a race, but it was not enough as the Swarthmore College Garnet knocked off the Red and White by a final of 190-70 on Saturday afternoon at the Clarke Aquatic Center. Prior to the start of the meet the Devils honored their four seniors
Avery Coonin,
Patrick Dunn,
Reid Schattgen and
Sunil Surprenant.
In the first race of the day the team of
Nolan Chenot,
Frederico Colloca-Bianchi,
Daulton Kendall and
Justin Wong took third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.19, while the the other DC unit of
Andrew Kelley,
Henry Lease,
Sunil Surprenant and
Daniel Vasquez fell in fifth at 1:45.40.Â
Kanard grabbed second during the lengthy 1,000-yard freestyle by hitting the wall in 10:23.97.
Aidan Keillor also was involved in the event finishing in fifth (10:44.54).
Wright secured his victory in the 200-yard freestyle besting the Garnet's Steve Gooden by a little over a second 1:48.12 to 1:49.94.
Two Devils occupied podium spots for the 100-yard backstroke with Colloca-Bianchi taking second with a 57.08, followed by
Paul Florio at 58.53.
A pair of DC members were inside the Top-5 of 100-yard breaststroke led by Wong in third (1:03.01) and Lease at fifth (1:05.18).
Reid Schattgen made his first appearance of the day in the 200-yard butterfly clocking in at 2:00.57 for second after Sam Peterson of Swarthmore posted a 2:00.39. Kelley grabbed fourth after hitting the wall in 2:08.74.
Kendall led a trio of Devils competing in the 50-yard freestyle as he took fourth (22.72), with Chenot (22.99) and
Avery Coonin (25.13) landing in sixth and seventh.
Dickinson occupied fifth through seventh during the 100-yard freestyle thanks to Kendall (49.51), Wright (50.32) and Surprenant (53.43).
Colloca-Bianchi (2:05.20) and
Patrick Dunn (2:19.26) held down third and fourth for the 200-yard backstroke.
Kanard earned his victory in the 500-yard freestyle posting a 5:01.09 to beat out Peterson by four seconds. Keillor landed just outside the Top-3 in fourth with a 5:08.03, with Florio (5:14.94) and
Ben Lilly (5:16.41) also doing battle in the race.
Schattgen seized his second second-place result of the day during the 100-yard butterfly by stopping the clock at 54.95, while Chenot fell to fifth (55.89) and
Sam Strieb clocked in at 1:06.73 for seventh.
The group of Chenot, Kendall, Schattgen and Wong finished third in the final race of the day the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.83.Â
