CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team put four players in double-figures and got 20 points from the bench en route to a convincing 62-40 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University at the Kline Center on Wednesday night.
The visitors recorded the first bucket of the game 32-seconds in when Michaela O'Neil finished off a layup, but then
Mia Kolb and
Clair Marion tallied four of the next six to even things at 4-4 with 2:30 off the clock. The visitors reclaimed the lead thanks to Jadyn Murray, before
Kate Montgomery stepped beyond the arc to nail a triple for the slim 7-6 edge.
Caitlin Blackman,
Mia Chapman,
Lindsey Hollenshead, Kolb and Marion then all chipped in on a 12-1 romp to claim a ten-point cushion 18-8 inside the final minute of the first. Olivia Parisi closed out the scoring in the frame with two at the charity stripe making it 18-10.
The Blue Jays came out flying to start the second as Kendall Dunham netted five straight to close within 18-15, prior to Blackman finding the bottom of the net at the 2:21 mark. The next two minutes went by scoreless until Hollenshead stretched the margin to 22-15. The teams then traded the ensuing eight points with Kolb and Marion adding to the hosts total bumping the advantage to seven (26-19) with less than three to play. Dickinson asserted themselves over the first seven minutes of the third period as Blackman, Kolb, Marion, and Montgomery each recorded a basket during a 10-1 rampage to build up a double-digit cushion at 39-23. During the Devils run the Blue Jays went 0-10 from the field and 1-4 at the charity stripe. Buckets by Kristin Ralston and O'Neil sandwiched two foul shots from Chapman to leave the Devs on top 41-27 with ten minutes to play.
A layup for Kolb along with two at the stripe for Montgomery opened up a 45-29 lead less than two minutes into the fourth. A 11-1 Hopkins response led by five points for Zoe Soule gave the Jays a lifeline at 46-39 still seven minutes remaining. However, the Red and White had the immediate answer as free throws from Blackman and Montgomery along with jumpers for Hollenshead and Marion blew the home lead back out to 57-39 at the 7:13 off the clock.
