Devils Ready for Turkey Day by Feasting on Green Terror

CARLISLE, Pa. - Junior guard Clair Marion made sure that the fans that did not head out for their Thanksgiving break early were treated to a show, as she netted 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor, as the Dickinson women's basketball team forced 26 turnovers and rolled to a 51-29 win in their Centennial Conference opener over McDaniel College on Tuesday night at the Kline Center.

It appeared that no one wanted to score early in the game as it took 3:56 off the clock, before Carli Vogel tallied the first points of the game. Dickinson found their way onto the board 11-seconds later when Lindsey Hollenshead setup Victoria Zerbe for a layup to tie the score. The Red and White then clamped down on the visitors offense allowing no more McDaniel points, while Marion dropped five and Caitlin Blackman chipped in a buzzer-beating jumper to make it 9-2 after one.

The Green Terror began to fight back early in the second with Raegan Lenz and Lil Overcash supplying offense, while at the other end Marion and Zerbe converted for the Devils to leave it at 14-9 with 8:13 left. Two minutes would escape the clock, before Marion hit Zerbe for a jumper. After a missed shot by Mia Chapman, Lenz cleaned up a miss by her teammate Jordan McLean to hold the margin at five (16-11). Then, for the second consecutive quarter the Red and White pitched a shutout over the last five minutes as they closed on an 11-0 outburst on scores from Jenna Weinstein, Blackman and Marion giving DC a 27-11 halftime advantage.

McDaniel came out of the break firing as a triple for Overcash and a jumper by Elaina Beckett surrounded a trey out of the hands of Marion cutting it down to 30-16 at the 2:16 mark. Dickinson came storming back with a 7-0 run thanks to four from Marion, two for Blackman and a single free throw by Chapman making it 37-16 with 4:27 left. A Lenz bucket stunted the charge for a second, before the home side ended on a 6-0 run courtesy of Clare Cronley and Marion to take a 43-18 lead with 30 minutes in the book.

The Green Terror exploded early in the fourth with a 10-2 gallop on scores from Ally Mathias, Teya McConnaha, Beckett and Vogel to trim the gap down to 45-28 with seven minutes off the clock. Dickinson concluded the game by tallying six of the final eight points with Abby John and Chapman setting up Molly Heron and Indatou Ali-Goukoye, while Blackman notched two on the charity stripe to seal up the 51-29 win and send everyone into Turkey Day happy.
