CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to build up a 31-12 halftime lead, which they grew upon over the final 20 minutes to collect a 62-38 Centennial Conference win against the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats at the Kline Center on Wednesday night.
Things were tight early as the two sides traded the opening ten points with
Mia Chapman and
Clair Marion supplying the offense for the Devils. Four points for
Jenna Weinstein along with a trey from Marion gave DC a 12-5. Jaclyn Feit and Steph Sexton helped F&M to collect four of the final seven to leave the deficit at seven through ten minutes at 15-8.
It was all Dickinson through the first seven minutes of the second as
Caitlin Blackman,
Clare Cronley,
Molly Heron,
Lindsey Hollenshead and Marion organized a 16-0 charge to grab a commanding 31-8 advantage. Two at the charity line for Kayla McCrea and a layup by Feit capped the scoring for the half at 31-12.
The Red and White continued their run to start off the third quarter as six points from Chapman and a triple for Blackman extended the lead to 40-12 with 3:09 off the clock. F&M finally found the scoreboard with 6:09 remaining when Sexton hit from deep and Feit tallied in the paint to trim it down to 40-17. However, Dickinson had an immediate response with seven consecutive points between Marion and Weinstein to push the margin to 30 (47-17). The Diplomats came back with an 8-0 run of their own, before Blackman knocked down two on the charity stripe to send the game to the fourth with DC on top 49-25.Â
Irene Haramis,
Gabby Smelcer and Hollenshead helped to contribute to the Devils advantage making it 55-30 with 5:50 remaining. A Molly Flanagan free throw stunted the DC charge for a brief moment, before
Ella Smith and Cronley hit the bottom of the net for a 60-31 lead. A baseline jumper for Smith would be the final bucket of the game for the Red and White as F&M closed on a 7-2 run to set the 62-38 final.
