Devils Run Streak to Eight by Sweeping Season Series with Mules

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got a game-high 16 points each from senior Lindsey Hollenshead and junior Clair Marion to complete the season sweep of Muhlenberg College with a 54-42 Centennial Conference win over the Mules inside the Kline Center on Thursday night. With the victory, the Devils won their fifth straight over the Mules and their eighth consecutive game overall.

Five early points from Marion gave the home side a slim 5-4 edge just three minutes in. Just over a minute later Dickinson continued to add-on as a layup for Victoria Zerbe and a foul shot from Abby John coupled with three-balls by Hollenshead and Marion opened the margin up to 14-4. Five points from Katie McGrath brought the margin under double-digits at 16-9, but a triple for Clare Cronley and driving layup by Marion made it 21-9. Avery McNulty split a pair on the line in the final second to trim one off the gap after ten minutes (21-10).

Marion knocked down a three just 24-seconds into the next period off a dish from Zerbe, before Caitlin Blackman picked off a McGrath pass and went "coast to coast" pushing it to 26-10. The ensuing three minutes went by without any points, until Rachel Saxton dialed up a long-range shot. However, Hollenshead answered back with a three of her own off another Zerbe pass making it 29-13. Muhlenberg gave themselves life going into halftime as buckets from McGrath, McNulty and Saxton capped an 8-0 run over the last 2:17 to pull within 29-21.

After the opening two-plus minutes of the third frame saw no scoring, a pair of Hollenshead jumpers and a tough finish in the paint for John stretched the DC lead back over double-digits (35-21) with 5:53 left. The next six points of the game were scored on the foul line with Mia Fitzgerald and McGrath tallying for the Mules, while Cronley hit twice for the Devils giving Dickinson a 37-25 advantage. The Red and White would head into the fourth with all the momentum as baskets from Blackman, Hollenshead, John and Zerbe accounted for a quarter-ending 7-2 run allowing DC to take a 44-27 lead to the fourth.

It was all visitors over the first three minutes of the final period as Ava Connolly, Jenna Stockfeder, McNulty and Saxton went on a 9-0 run to close within 44-36. After Dickinson missed their first eight shots, Hollenshead and John found the bottom of the net for th 47-36 lead inside the final four minutes. A three-ball for Fitzgerald cut it down to eight (47-39), but foul shots by Jenna Weinstein, Hollenshead, Marion and Zerbe were enough for the Devils to get the game across the finish line at 54-42.
